Hi there.

My photo
Jill Brown has over 15 years of experience in the field of photography. She has studied photography at Missouri State University and Maryville University, St. Louis. She spent time working on her personal fine art work for many years and in 2003 started her first wedding and portrait photography business in St. Louis, MO. Jill moved to Des Moines, IA in 2005 and has continued her wedding and portrait business along with her fine art photography. Jill currently has work displayed in and around the Des Moines area as well as work in personal collections around the world. Jill uses both medium format film cameras and digital formats to create her images. This is how the artist describes her work: “My work is a reflection of everyday life and places. I chose the medium of photography as a tool to capture the essence of the person or place. I create images to depict the subject as they are remembered in the mind. Not posed or unnatural, but as a window into the intimate world of the subject.” Jill Brown is a member of Professional Photographers of America.

"Barn Series"

When I moved to Iowa in 2005, I was so moved by the scenery and the beautiful, old barns that are everywhere.  I would take photos of these beautiful barns while my husband drove.  I loved their mystery.  I loved the stories they held.  I wondered who owned them, what they stored, how long they had lived there.  I did not want them to be forgotten.

My fascination with these barns eventually (and unintentionally) led to a series of photographs.  I wanted these barns to appear as is they are in your dreams and did that by manipulating each image to bring out a more surreal texture and tone.

Currently this series is on display in Cherokee, IA at the Sanford Museum and Planetarium.  Fifteen photographs from this series will be on display through the end of April.

Here's a few photos of me taken by my friend Missy:

Here are a few of the Barns you will find on display:

I want to thank some very, very good friends of mine for coming with me on the 6 hour round-trip drive Cherokee, IA to help me hang this show.  It was one FUN road trip and I was so very happy to have you both there with me!  Thank you so, so, so, so much Missy and Becky!!

Congrats on the show!
You know I love your barn series!! The way you describe it is how I feel about abandoned places. I just wonder what happened that last day before people just left it to go back to the earth. Did the last person to walk out know they would be the last? I would cry if I knew!

Beautiful pictures of you. You look so peaceful. At peace and fulfilling your dreams. Way to go!
